Now that allot of you have read the 8th ed book what army do you think becomes boss and why.

I think ogres get a huge bump. It’s now worth it to take large Blocks of troops. Also scrap launchers are boss now what do you all think?

Ogres will be good. There's some question as to whether the overridden army comp rules includes the 0-1 for Tyrants & 1+ for bulls.

But monstrous infantry get 3 supporting attacks instead of 1 so running 2+ ranks is going to be worthwhile and you still get the +strength on impact hits.

I was reading about a dude running his bulls 3x6 and reforming after round 1 6x3 to get horde bonus. but that's a big damn unit.

yes. 3 supporting attacks per model in rank 3.

With impact, regular attacks and stomps you get like 50+ attacks.

High Elves, Slaanesh Daemon list, and Empire are the new sick armies

High Elves with ASF and High I is going to be huge

Also with volley fire archers are sick
Huge Blocks of spearmen getting tons of attacks going first is great.

Phoniex Guard get a bump as well.

So I put high elves up in the top 3 easy.

Slaanesh Daemons will be great with ASF and even if they don't have ASF they all have very high I wich will give them the attacks first I think they will be a top army, not the best but a top army.

Empire might be the new best army,

Mortors are the large pie blast which means if you roll a hit on a unit of 30 plus guys your pretty much hitting them all. And at only 75 points each they are more then worth it. You can even try and snipe monsters with that thing and hope you get lucky with a hit.

Cannons are crazy good, not having to guess makes them even crazier. You can say that you want your cannon ball to land 7 and 3/4 of an inch away from your target and you are almost a guartned hit every time. The only way you wont is if you roll a missfire, or a 2 then a 2, or 4. The odds of rolling what you need to hit your target are highly in your favor.

So popping large targets got alot easier with a cannon ball.

Also large units of hand gunners being able to fire in two ranks will mess people up and they are cheap.

Steam tanks will continue to be boss because of the grind/impact hits deal.

And like I said before Hellstorm rocket batteries are like cracked out mortors that will now reak havoc on units.

You could drop one on a unit of 30 guys and they could all die, most basic infintry guys are not getting a save against it.

The only thing that empire will be hurting on is going to be really hard hitting units because of their low I, but large blocks of spearmen will take care of that if the people your fighting ever manage to get through your new crazy good shooting.

So top armies

Empire, High Elves, and I think Slaanesh Daemons will do well.

You can also throw orcs and goblins in there because night goblins will be so good now, taking uints of 30+ guys means your going to be stubborn alot and for only 3 points a guy who cares.

Giant units of archers doing volley fire with crush people.

So yeah other weakers armies will get a bump, and magic spam is gone for the most part, we will have to see what happens when we start playing with the new rules to know for sure though.

Because of the way magic is now with miscasts I think Chaos will be boss puppet is so broken now I love it also Dark elves and there d3 plus 1 power dice roles crazy good.

So how are my vamps looking? I haven't gotten a chance to actually look at the book. I'm pretty sure the 25% chars is going to kill it but whatever.

Yeah vamps are taking a big hit,

And with the power dice thing that will crush how you get to summon,

Vamps will not be a power house unless you play lots of nights that are hard hitting.

Undead in general are taking it up the butt with the whole "Always attack on initiative" even on the charge. That REALLY REALLY hurts TK at least, since most TK builds work around getting the charge off with spells.

True but TK chariots will rule now that there is no auto pop on chariots

Big units of Chariots will be sweet, I am sure there will be some new chariot armies coming out.

And their shooting will be nasty giant regiments of archers with poisson arrows using volley fire will be a greaet thing.

25% characters, and 25% lords.

So in a tk game, you have 500pts to spend on one or two lords and 500 to spend on vampires and necromancers. Don't see how people are hurting with 1/2 your points in characters. Vamps will most likely always have 12 dice to case with, opponents will have less magic defense.

Manfred is fantastic now, with all the lore of death spells to toss around the table.

VC do take a hit, but its not all bad. You just have to start with large units and raise a little less. Regen Blood Knights will be sick, now they can restrain charge and with a rank bonus they can negate ranks, plus supporting attacks. Ouch!

HE definitely get a big boost but I am reluctant to call them top tier. They are still T3 5+ save elves that panic on LD8. Fear is also going to be huge against these guys, with LD8 they fail 1/3 tests and become WS1 which reduce the impact of the rerolls, plus the only reroll against lower I. Against other Elves or Slaanesh they won't get the rerolls in most cases, whereas DE still keep them

Off the top of my head I would rank DE as one of if not the best army this edition. Not sure how the rest is gonna wash out.

-VC and DL go down a few notches, but still solid
-HE go up
-Lizards are about the same maybe a little worse but just a little
-Empire get a modest boost but still suffer from low LD
-WoC get a boost just by virtue of the magic items, a chaos lord is good now!! Restrain with Khorne, Tzeentch gives a 5+ parry save, and so on.

low LD shouldnt be a big problem for most armies though, with a BSB around being able to re-roll all stat tests should be huge, and if you put a general on a dragon or griffon or some kind of large target then they all have his LD within 18inch so there are ways to dodge that low LD stuff.

The troll army will be very good now,

and the WOC item that makes you miscast will be a very valuable item as well.

But like I said we will find out how these armies actually play when the tournaments start.

Daemons are still going to be a very tough army to play, espeically because of flesh hounds, and flamers are still going to rock.

So we will see soon enough....

I was told there is no seperate Lord percentage. It's just a flat 25% in characters.

Do Cav get supporting attacks? I thought they didn't, and heavy cav couldn't march. Granted this is all rumour stuff I read as I haven't had a chance to read the new book yet like some of you.

25% lords 25 % heros

In 3000 points you get 750 per choice If you can tack 4 lords in 750 you can do it.

And yes cav can

Cav get supporting attacks, I didn't catch if it was one or your full attacks. The mount does not get supporting attacks.

I'm not sure of the ranked cavalry rules, since it's rarely seen (except Bretonia, and they have special rules for their formation that probably will continue).

The rumor about heavy cavalry not being able to march is pretty much debunked. This edition seems to be all about making everyone more mobile (except flyers, who get toned down a bit).

You were told wrong.)

Do Cav get supporting attacks? I thought they didn't,

They do, but just the rider.

and heavy cav couldn't march.

They can. They lose the usual 1" for barding.

Granted this is all rumour stuff I read as I haven't had a chance to read the new book yet like some of you.
I have devoured it for many hours, and still have a lot of reading to do. Big book. Ludwig and I played a game tonite until 2am. Huge fun.

Hmmm I might have to throw up a couple test lists (1 Beast and 1 VC) to see what you more experience players think with the new rules. I'm pretty much going from the warseer rumour discussion at this point. I still haven't had a chance to read the rules very much (besides the magic section, I like the new spell lists). Probably will not get the chance untill maybe Weds.

Speaking of Weds, anyone want a game? I'll be up there after work waiting on Spencer to come in for the 4k IG vs 1900 of Eldar beat down I'll be receiving.
