PostSubject: Wood Elf List   Mon May 09, 2011 9:46 pm

I havent played much in 8th and I havent played Wood Elves since they were redone in the last edition, but I have refreshed myself with the rules and have been wrapping my head around 8th.

I dont think Wood Elves are terrible, but they are really only going to be good at getting the small win, which is fine as a win is a win. Here is what I came up with:

Spellweaver- 280
Divination Orb, Charmed Shield and Lvl 4

Noble- 140
BSB, Hail of Doom Arrow and Sword of Might

Spellsinger- 140
Deepwood Shpere and Resplendence of Luminescents

Spellsinger- 115
Dispel Scroll

20 Glade Guard- 262
Standard and Flaming Banner

20 Glade Guard- 252
Standard

20 Glade Guard- 252
Standard

10 Dryads- 132
Nymph

10 Dryads- 132
Nymph

5 Waywatchers- 120

5 Waywatchers- 120

Eagle- 50

Eagle- 50

Treeman- 285

Total- 2500

So the idea is that you shoot the %$@@ out of the oppposing army, shocker I know. The Waywatchers are great in this edition with the new scout rules and being able to be in the deployment zone. The Lvl 1 spellsingers will be used to move woods, and the Deepwood Sphere can be a good suicide bomber to get an enemy unit in a wood to take a Str5 hit for everyone in the unit.

When the enemy gets close you use the Eagles to block chargers and setup the overruns in weird directions. The Dryads can be used to conga line out in front of units to block units from charging the glade guard, and if you conga line through a wood they will be stubborn. So you have to play smart and you have to be on your toes and constantly keep your opponent thinking, but I have really been thinking of playing a more finesse army after my VC are done.

What do you think?

Spellweaver can't take magic armor - so you'll have to give up that charmed shield.

When I add up everything without the Charmed shield I am only getting 2325 in points.

I love the idea of using the skirmishers in the woods to keep stubborn. Watch those overruns in 8th, if they win combat or wipeout the eagle they will usually just reform automatically (unless they are a frenzy unit, in which case they have no choice - assuming it's the round they charged). I still freaking LOVE eagles, best unit stall/delay in the game. Looks like a fun list man. I think a lot of us have been thinking about playing a little more finesse and a little less hammer for the "local" tournaments. You're in good company.

Yeah math not really a friend of mine. The reform is fine if they kill the ealge, the idea is to keep them away from the glade guard and it gives me another round or two of shooting. 60 GG is a ton of potential damage.

Play testing is always in order. And now that I know its down on points I can add more shooting and replace the charmed shield with something else.

I completely spaced on the armor/Wizard issue.

I think for the extra points, I would add a unit of wardancers.

But we will see.
